Torres del Paine National Park, W-Trek
After taking a short internal flight down to the southern end of Chilean Patagonia, we arrived in Puerto Natales. This town serves as the base for the famous Torres del Paine National Park. We allowed ourselves a couple of days to relax, buy hiking snacks and (in Hadleighs case) get some work done. Then we tackled the 4day/3 night W-Trek. We slept in fixly installed tents that the refugios had set up and walked about 20km per day. In true patagonian fashion, the weather threw everything it had at us... strong winds coming up from antarctica, bitter cold, rain and even snowstorms. Battling the elements plus the very long days of walking made this a challenging experience for us, but we did get rewarded by some clear views onto the famous Torres on our last day. Because of its fame there were lots of other hikers and the prices are very high. Taking all this into consideration we actually thought we got more out of the experience on the Carretera Austral, nontheless the Torres del Paine National Park is a very unique and incredible landscape and definitiely worth seeing.
