Chiloé Island

To get to the Carretera Austral you have to take a ferry across the bay, which we did by ways of going through the Island of Chiloé first. There we stayed in a isolated lovely little cabin in the woods with absolutely zero internet/phone connection, which allowed us to switch off, read travel guidebooks and sleep. We did venture out for some kayaking, where we got absolutely attacked by hundreds of horseflies. If you have ever been bitten by a horsefly, you know it HURTS. And as we learned quickly, they are vicious and will bite right through your clothing. Nontheless, Chiloé showed itself to be a peaceful, tranquil place overall and we would have definitely stayed longer if we had not already booked a ferry to our next destination, Chaiten.
